  2. On the GenealogyBank blog, Scott shows how to research old military records and war stories in newspapers.
  3. On the Fishwrap, Karen explains Newspapers.com collaborative project with the University of North Carolina to digitize pre-1923 newspapers.
  4. If you are researching your hispanic ancestry in deep south Texas, then county ranch histories are invaluable. Moises highlights one for Hidalgo County, Texas. [I'm from there.]
  5. Have Irish roots? From Claire on Irish Genealogy News: John Grenham's Irish Ancestors database has been recently updated.
  6. The Families in British India Society (FIBIS) has added another 3000 extracted births, marriages, and deaths from Allen's Indian Mail 1880.

  2. The British Museum asks, "Have we found Fred and Nellie?" [I think they have. Do you? And? In my personal experience, if you blog it, eventually you're found. Sometimes sooner, sometimes later.] 
  3. On the Transylvanian Dutch blog, John gives a word of caution about obituaries.
  4. Researchers tend to read and deal with PDFs on-the-go. Here are some iPad apps for highlighting and reviewing PDFs from makeuseof.com.
  5. Also from makeuseof.com, here is a handy app to watermark your photos with.
  6. For Memorial Day, MyHeritage is making their US military records free to access from May 23rd to May 26th.
  7. Have "photo clutter?" The Practical Archivist advises to PLEASE DELETE: De-Clutter Your Digital Photos. [I need to do this again.]

  • It's time to put your hands together and Welcome the University of British Columbia Library Digitization Centre to the Flickr Commons! This collection is brimming with photos, manuscripts, letters, glass plate negatives, and the like.
  • For Evernote users: Livescribe adds Evernote auto-send for handwritten digital notes and Publish Great Content from Evernote with Postach.io.
  • So, here's a great example of why you can't do everything in the cloud. A good lesson to keep in mind when deciding on where to put all your research as well. Should you put it up all in the cloud and not have it anywhere else? Further, should you rely on web-based applications only?

  • On Fishwrap, Taraya introduces the historical Women's Army Nurse Corps and shows you how to learn more about it on Newspapers.com.
