Full Disclosure

"Full Disclosure" sounds so, I don't know, serious.  Doesn't it?  Basically, it's where I'm going to bare all to you.  Metaphorically speaking, of course.

I have a mixture of ads on my site.  Some are for free sites, and those are marked for your convenience.

Some are Google Ads.  I'm not in control of these much, but they are supposed to match the content of my blog.  Hm. We'll see how it works, because I tend to use some far flung examples to explain genealogical concepts.  This could get very interesting.  The last time I used it, it didn't work very well for me.

Others are affiliate ads.  What are these? Let's say you're reading my blog, and there's a particular ad [like the one up above] that is capturing your attention [and this better not happen while you're reading my posts because that would mean my writing is not capturing your attention. And that would be bad.]. But for this example we'll assume you are distracted by an ad because you have ADHD, not because you think my writing is boring.  Anywho.  When you click on that ad for a company and  purchase the good or service that they're trying to sell to you, then I receive a commission. Tiny. Miniscule. Microscopic. Commission. Just because I digitally referred them to you. Cool, huh? [It would be if I had, like, a ton of you and all your friends clicking and buying ~ LEGITIMATELY, of course. So, tell your friends about my site. The ones who like to read and  the ones who have ADHD. ;) ]  And another great thing about this?  The good or service doesn't cost you anymore than if you purchased directly from the company. It's a win-win.  [That's right. Charlie Sheen isn't the only one winning, folks.]

Now, all this talk about referring has led up to what I'd really like to see happen. [So pay attention please.]  Paid ads. When I finally have a whole bunch of you reading my posts, loving my site, and interacting on it, then maybe ~ just maybe ~ a company might like to rent some real estate on my blog.  That's right. You have a voice in this.  You've been empowered.  So if you read it and ya' love it, then share it.  Please.

So, here's the deal. First and foremost the appearance of my site is extremely important to me.  I want it to have "curb appeal" [or screen appeal?].  Therefore, I promise not to clutter it up.  Also, I'll choose some affiliate ads for companies that I think you, my dear reader, would want to at least check out to see if, indeed, the company has something you want. And your part?  Click if you want it.  Don't click if you don't want it.  But the most important thing you can do?  Tell everyone you know about my site.  That's all you really need to do to help me out.  But only if you want to.

I do offer my own genealogical services, but that is only one part of this site/blog.  The other part is all the free hints, tips, & tricks that I will be sharing with you.  Seems strange, I know.  However, my main goal is to get as much information on the internet as possible and to get as many people looking for their ancestors online as much as possible.  In my opinion, the more people looking, the better for all of us.  No matter who is doing the looking.  Some people like to do it themselves.  Some like to do it themselves, but don't have the time or skills set.  And some just have no desire to look, but really want to know about their ancestors.  So, I'm just trying to give a little help to those who need it, but provide my professional services to those who may be in need of those as well.

In the future, I do plan to advertise and sell my own E-books that will expand upon the concepts that are discussed on the blog.  And when I do so, trust me, you'll know.

While blogging my hints, tips, and tricks, I may mention certain products or services.  I may or may not be compensated for mentioning them, or I may link to my Amazon store where you may purchase the product or service if you are so inclined.  I will mention in the blog post when I am doing this, so it won't be a surprise to you.  Why would I link to my Amazon store?  Because if you read my opinion and you are interested in purchasing the product, then wouldn't it be kind of nice to give me a little "thank you for recommending this" commission?  The product doesn't cost you any more than if you just bought it from Amazon directly.

In addition, I do plan to do reviews for goods and services related to genealogy, family history, history, etc.  These reviews will be honest ~ the good, the bad, and the ugly.  And when you think about it, this the best way to go for everyone.  How else will they get any better?  Right?  I may or may not be compensated in some way for reviewing the good and/or service.  Either way, I will let you know.

Well, there's my full disclosure for the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).  Basically, while reading my blog please assume the following:
  • That I am trying to help you, but please keep in mind that not everything in life is free.
  • That I will try not  to go out of business by trying to make a commission here and a commission there.
  • That I will always be forthright and honest in my attempts to make those commissions concerning reviews and my Amazon store by making you aware before the blog post, in the body of the blog post, and after the blog post.
  • That I will not try to sell you something in every blog post.  That would be tacky.  And annoying.  Then you'd never come back to visit and read.  And that would be bad.  Really bad.

So there it is.  This way I know that you know that we all know that we know.  You know? O-o  [Legalese.  Don't you love it?]
