Today's Things

  • Here is an exciting new site that allows you to map your family tree -- Place My Past. If you have a family tree on MyHeritage, you can import your tree, and, like magic, your family tree is mapped. According to their blog, this Australian-based freemium service "...helps you to visualize your family tree at various places and points in time." Give it a spin and let us all know in comments below how you like it.
  • Don't forget: The Legal Genealogist's free APG-sponsored webinar, Terms of Use, is tomorrow. And you don't have to be a member of the APG to attend but you need to register.

  • If you've done some ancestor hunting in newspapers, you might have come across your ancestors' letters to Santa. If you haven't, on the GenealogyBank blog, Mary Harrell-Sesniak shows some examples in their newspaper databases.
  • Here are some great add-ons and extensions to "supercharge" your browser from Makeuseof.com. [I use many of these.]
  • Now you can help fill in the holes on Google Street View according to Jamie Condliffe on Gizmodo.com.
  • iPad Air or iPad Mini? You might be trying to decide between the two. On Forbes.com, Ewan Spence goes over the two devices to help you make your decision.
  • New Parish Records were added to findmypast.co.uk recently.
  • FamilySearch.org added or updated records for China, Ecuador, Italy, and the US state of Tennessee (Cocke County and Putnam County).
  • On Genea-Musings, Randy indicates American Ancestors (NEHGS) has added a new database to their online service for members: Essex County, Mass.: Probate File Papers, 1638-1840. He also shows how he used it for his own research as well.
  • GenealogyTrails.com volunteer contributors have added new records & information recently for various counties in the following US states: North Dakota, Oklahoma (quite a bit for many counties), Kansas, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Alabama (1907 Census of Confederate Veterans -- all 67 counties), and Texas.
  • And USGenWeb volunteer contributors uploaded 291 files for various counties in the following US states: Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio, South Dakota, Texas, Virginia, and Washington.

Other things that might interest you. Maybe. Maybe not. But maybe.
