  • Mondays With Myrt, a Google+ Hangout On Air, where Dear Myrtle, her cousin Russ, and guests discuss popular genealogy topics starts this morning at 11am CDT. Go to her community and wait for the update to join, watch, and/or comment.
  • Readdle's PDF Expert app for the iPhone was free yesterday, but I'm showing it's still free today. This is only the iPhone version and you can read PDFs, annotate PDFs, edit PDFs, sign PDFs, create audio comments, and more with this popular iPhone app.

  • MagicalPad HD app is 90% off for 2 days only. At 99 cents, this iPad app is a notes app, mindmapping app, outline app, and more all rolled into one. An iPhone version will be coming out very soon and probably because of that, they've put the iPad version on sale. What a great way to work out a research problem.
  • On the British Genes blog, Chris shares with us the latest titles added to the British Newspaper Archive. Did your ancestors make the papers?
  • On gigaom.com Kevin C. Tofel, explains to us why some of our Chrome Browser plug-ins are being pulled from the Chrome Store.
  • Don't forget Genealogy Roadshow is on tonight on PBS after Antiques Roadshow. Below is a preview of tonight's episode in Detroit. If unable to watch the embedded video, here is the link to watch it on PBS.org: http://video.pbs.org/video/2365085561/

  • Don't you hate it when you're at your Great Aunt Bernice's house and you're visiting with your cousin Betty {who is now really interested in family history ever since she found out there might be an Indian Princess in the family tree} and you'd love to share with her a screenshot you made the other day that you shared with your cousin Bob when y'all were trying to figure out if your great great grandfather was wearing a Masonic tie pin in that picture you found on that website you love so much, but you forgot to save it in your Dropbox account on your desktop at home? {Happens to me all the time.} No worries. Mike Williams on betaNews reveals to us the new Dropbox 2.4 release has made it easier to share the screenshots you make on Windows and Mac.

  • And it appears Microsoft does listen and respond. On The Verge blog, Tom Warren tells us the Start Button will be coming back to us in the next Windows update in October.
  • Myrt shares with us this week's genealogy webinars, chats, and hangouts. {Remember: these are live events that may or may not be available for later viewing, and these are not all the live genealogy online viewing opportunities, just the majority of them. So if you don't list yours here, you might want to.}
  • Do you have ancestral roots in Rhode Island? {Why, yes, I do.} Then we definitely need to check out the newly revealed Rhode Island State Archives Online Catalog as reported on GoLocalProv.com
And remember. It's Sunday. And Sundays are made for keeping it easy. {And finding your family history mysteries.}

  • Here is a list of clickable links to all the new indexed records & digitized images FamilySearch.org added to its online collections in the past week. Did they add something you've been needing for your research? {They did for me and my current client.}
  • Got Georgia {US} roots? 2 days ago, Ancestry.com added to it's Georgia Land Lottery, 1827 online collection. {Thank you. I needed that for my research.}
  • Ancestors from Down Under? Did they make the papers? On Genvines.com, Janell reports the latest newspaper additions to Australia's Trove.
  • Running out of room on your Google Drive plan due to non-Google Drive file types {like MS Word file types}? No worries. On LifeHacker.com, Melanie Pinola shows us how to make more space in our Google Drives for free. {And it's easy.}
  • Evernote's 3 Dev Cup winners {awards given to developers who create add-on applications fro Evernote} all have created Evernote applications researchers can use in some way if said researchers use Evernote, that is. So check them out on Mashable.

  • I can't say enough good things about the website Primary Source Nexus. Basically, it's a site to show teachers how to use primary source materials in the classroom and supports them in that endeavor. However, by doing so, it teaches us how to use primary source material as well for our genealogy and family history research. I think their Tech Tips & Tutorials Page and their Resources Page are extremely helpful for the family history researcher, but you're definitely going to want to explore the whole site.
  • Did any of your ancestors work on the railroad "all the live-long day"? On the Mocavo Blog, Michael Leclerc explores Railroad Retirement Board Records. Go have a look-see.

  • Don't forget to register for the Texas State Genealogical Society's annual conference in Round Rock, Oct 31st-Nov 2nd, y'all! Thomas W. Jones is the keynote speaker. Plus? The banquet will be done Texas-style with boots, jeans, cowboy hats, and BBQ. {Yum. Y'all.}
  • Do you have ancestral roots in the state of New York? {Yes.} Then you'll want to check out Kenneth R. Marks' {The Ancestor Hunt} latest quick how-to videos on several New York state newspaper sites. Did your ancestors make these New York papers? {From Texas to New York in a few short sentences. How do you like them apples, y'all?}
  • On Engadget, Nicole Lee reveals to us the popular {at least to me} screenshot annotation add-on for Evernote, Skitch, received some iOS 7 sprucing up. {I can't tell you how much I use Skitch for genealogy and blogging, but I can tell you it's a LOT.}
  • Has trying to figure out how to cite Twitter properly been keeping you up late at night? On Mashable, Rebecca J. Rosen introduces us to a tool that creates the Twitter citation for you in MLA and APA formats like that. *snaps fingers*

  • On the Scottish Genealogy Blog, Emma shares with us there is a new free pre-1855 baptism search for the south of Scotland on MaxwellAncestry.com.
  • On his blog British Genes, Chris makes a very good point: compare prices of documents before purchasing. Good advice for everyone anywhere. {I, however, was stuck on the fact that he thought £15 was high for a BMD. I just paid $20 for a Texas death certificate. Texas birth certificates are $22.} But his point remains -- compare prices.

  • While it's well past breakfast {and lunch} in the UK {Tea Time news?}, here's something for those across the pond. Findmypast Ireland's Facebook Page shares that tonight's Who Do You Think You Are? features BBC news correspondent, John Simpson, and they will be tweeting live on Twitter during the show.
  • Ancestry.com {US} updated their 1911 Census of Canada collection yesterday. And according to Elizabeth LaPointe on her blog Genealogy Canada, so did Ancestry.ca {Canada}.
  • Academic journals can be very helpful to the family history researcher, and now, according to Diane on the NGS blog, JPASS is our "ticket" to accessing them easily.
  • Here's a brand-spanking new iOS app that scans and OCRs multi-page documents and creates searchable PDFs. And the app will cost you the same as the price of  a fancy schmancy coffee. {I wonder how accurate it is?}
  • The Armchair Genealogist, Lynn, shares with us 4 steps to creating a family history timeline. These can be very helpful for figuring out research problems.

  • The Utah Genealogical Association reports to us the Salt Lake Institute Genealogy [SLIG] is now accepting essays for their Jimmy B. Parker Scholarship for SLIG 2014.
  • This site is bookmark-worthy: the Hunting and Gathering blog by E. Lee Eltzroth. The main focus seems to be on historical photography. What got me there was the post, "Tues.Tips -- Researching Photographers Working in the South, Part 5 -- Texas." {Cuz, you know, I'm a Texan. Y'all.} You're going to want to block out some time to explore all the tips in this blog. {That's what I plan to do.} It's a wonderful resource.
  • On the Genealogy Bank blog, Gena spotlights the Hispanic American Newspapers in the GenealogyBank.com database. She gives us a great breakdown of what's available and how their collection can help us with our family history research.

Note: If you follow me on Twitter, @FamilyStories,  and you have Texas roots, I'll be tweeting throughout the day links to some university special collections and archives throughout Texas, which are wonderful repositories for the family history researcher. That's right. Saturdays are for College Football and College Libraries and Archives. And if you find a link that's helpful please don't be afraid to retweet it, y'all. ;)
