  • Big news from Tel Aviv last night: MyHeritage announced a long term "strategic partnership" with FamilySearch.org on a press release on Business Wire. On her blog, Renee Zamora has a very helpful Q and A that helps to explain the details of the partnership. {Basically, MyHeritage has increased the value of their service to their subscribers making adding records from FamilySearch easier to their trees, and FamilySearch gets the benefits of MyHeritage's record matching technologies. But the question is, "Will this actually make the user-contributed trees on either sites any better?" Only time will tell, I suppose. Personally, I think it's not about the records or technologies, but education on how to actually research. THAT's what's lacking, IMO. And, now more than ever, taking a breather and researching outside of your online family tree is important for your research success.}

  • From the TechRepublic blog, Brian Posey gives us a look at 5 apps for Google Earth {that I think have some genealogy-related uses}.
  • Got a Wifi dead spot in your house? On the Makeuseof blog, Chris Hoffman explores what wireless dead spots are and how to fix them. {Perfect timing for me because I have a major dead spot in my house -- my son's bedroom -- and it's causing him to go over his monthly data plan. Not pretty.}
  • On the the Olive Tree Genealogy blog, Lorine shares with us that the Toronto Star Archives has free access until today.
  • My Genealogy Hound has added many biographies and some maps to various states to their collection.
  • USGenWeb volunteers uploaded 177 files yesterday for US states: Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio, Texas, and Virginia. Did they upload something to their free collections you've been needing for your family history research?
  • Ancestry.com added 1 new collection for Czechoslovakia and added more records for 3 existing collections for Virginia, Massachusetts, and the Channel Islands.
Happy Researching!
