  • On her blog, Deb shares with us a great FREE resource for Civil War photographs. {Fabulous.}
  • On her blog, Heather {recently found out we're distant cousins} invites us to participate in her Military Honor Roll Project.
  • Do you have Irish ancestry in County Mayo? You'll want to check out what's new in the latest edition of Co. Mayo, Ireland, Genealogy & Family History Notes on the Irish Roots Cafe.

  • For those of us researching our ancestors who once lived in what is now the U.K., on The British GENES Blog, Chris informs us The British Newspaper Archives reaches a new milestone; more parish records have been released on The Genealogist website; some tithe maps are now online & searchable; and a handy listing of known WWII code breakers is available on the Bletchley WW2 Roll of Honour website.
  • From the findmypast UK blog, we can learn how jilted brides were portrayed in British newspapers and how knowing that can help us learn more about our ancestors. {Quite entertaining. In retrospect, of course. ;) }
  • On the FamilySearch.org Blog, Nathan W. Murphy shows us a handy and FREE way to get copies of pages from books that are not freely available on Google Books. {Very nice.}
  • And speaking of FamilySearch.org, they added to their free online historical record collections today for Argentina, Austria, Brazil, South Africa; the U.S. states of Minnesota and Washington; and to the Billiongraves.com Index. Did they add something you've been needing for your family history research?
  • Ancestry.com updated 2 collections yesterday for the Texas Divorce Index and the U.S. 1910 Census and they added 2 new collections for Collins County, Texas and for the UK.
  • And USGenWeb volunteer contributors uploaded 211 files yesterday for the following U.S. states: Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Ohio, Texas, and Virginia.
Daily Resource Spotlight: Have you ever wondered what life was like for your U.S. military ancestor? Just what was their military story? Then you'll want to take a look at the Experiencing War: Stories from the Veterans History Project, an online presentation made possible by the American Folklife Center. While audio and video interviews with veterans from the Vietnam War are being spotlighted on the front page, a combination of audio, video, and transcripts of interviews are available for searching and browsing by war and/ or military branch and it goes back to World War I.
Happy Researching!
