9 #Genealogy Things You Need To Know This Morning, Friday, 6 Sep 2013 via 4YourFamilyStory.comGenealogy Things for Friday, 6 Sep 2013
  • Class is in session. Put your thinking cap on and learn some of the ways Google Earth is being used in the classroom. Then think about how you can use it for your family history.
  • Lianne introduces us to the new society for One Place-Studies. Remember: your ancestors lived in places. Thus, it stand to reason learning more about a place can/may tell you more about your ancestor. {Makes sense, no?}

  • On his blog British Genes, Chris reports new Apprenticeship records online.
  • SCGS 2014 Jamboree has a Call for Papers for speakers out. Submission deadline is 1 Oct 2013.
  • Rootstech 2014 schedule is posted.
  • Looks like in addition to their Rootstech 2013 announcement of providing 140 million U.S. wills and probate records online, Ancestry.com and FamilySearch.org are both committing to digitizing much, much more. {So, I guess a formal commitment to something they're already doing everyday. Which is nice and appreciated.}
  • Speaking of Ancestry.com and digitization, they updated 2 collections yesterday and added a new one. {News you can use. This weekend, in fact. Or now.}
  • Yes, her roots are showing AND she's giving away a duplicate book from her home library collection. If you have Catholic ancestors, you might want to check out Jenny's blog and her book giveaway.
  • And last but not least, The Legal Genealogist explains the why and the how study groups should be aware of copyright. {Listen up. If you were the one writing this stuff, you'd not like all this "sharing" in the name of education. Or is it that just me?}

And? If you're using Flipboard, consider subscribing to, reading and/or flipping my Flipboard magazine, Power Your Genealogy Research With Technology. I'm flipping stuff in there all the time. Just flip it.
